Two NJ Residents Burned By Dunkin': Suits

Two separate lawsuits have been filed against the Dunkin' franchises by New Jersey residents claiming they suffered severe burns from the store's mishandling of hot beverages.

In February, Darryn Stewart, a Passaic resident, filed a lawsuit in Superior Court in Passaic County against the Dunkin' in Clifton claiming the staff was reckless, careless and negligent in failing to secure his hot beverage in a takeout tray and failing to properly the secure the tops of the containers when he visited Dunkin' in Sept. 2021.

Stewart suffered severe burns that required medical and hospital care, according to his suit. 

Another lawsuit was filed in Superior Court in Hudson  on Wednesday, April 5, after Howard Porch, a Bayonne resident, visited a Dunkin' in Bayonne in 2021. 

While at a Dunkin' drive thru, an employee attempted to hand Porch a tray with several cups of hot coffee, only they dropped the tray into his lap, causing burns on his abdomen, thigh and knees, according to the lawsuit.

Porch also alleges that employees brewed the coffee to an "unnecessarily high and dangerous temperature," and he suffered serious and permanent physical injuries.

A spokesman for Dunkin said they do not comment on current litigation involving their franchisees.
